Although I was born in the northern Atacama desert in an oasis called Lima, early on my soul was carried by oceanic winds up the Andes mountains. Even though I joined a Catholic University in Lima to learn Law, I found my true calling in the study of Andean culture and nature. After being handed a bachelor's in Anthropology, I came to the United States in pursuit of larger-size diplomas. And following an earlier fascination with things geographical, I joined the graduate program at my department. If completing my master's felt challenging enough, not dismissing my doctoral dreams altogether feels even harder. I am a Cancer and I was born on the year of the Dragon, and some day I hope to be Peru's first openly-gay elected official.
